FRI HWY 1 CRASH CPTOLA-12/15/13-1921-PMD

AN ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 1 NEAR 41ST AVENUECAUSED A MAJOR TRAFFIC JAM EARLY FRIDAY AFTERNOON.  CAPITOLA POLICE SENT OUT NIXLE ALERT WARNING DRIVERS TO AVOID THE AREA NEARLY 2 HOURS AFTER 12:10 P-M ACCIDENT, WHICH CLOSED THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF THE FREEWAY.    THAT AFTER A WOOD CHIPPER TRAILER OVERTURNED.  NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT, THE CAUSE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

MOLESTATION CHARGES 12/15/13 1722 GE

39 YEAR OLD BRIAN CRISWELL, WHO IS ALREADY FACING 16 CHARGES OF CHILD MOLESTATION, IS EXPECTED TO HAVE MORE CHARGES FILED. CRISWELL IS A FORMER COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATE TO ABUSED OR NEGLECTED CHILDREN IN SANTA CRUZ. NEW EVIDENCE HAS ARISEN FROM A VICTIM, WHO ALLEGEDLY MET CRISWELL DURING HIS YEARS AS A WRESTLING COACH IN LOCAL SCHOOLS IN SANTA CRUZ. CRISWELL IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD ON 500 THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL AND IS DUE IN COURT ON JANUARY 3RD TO SET A PRELIMINARY HEARING DATE TO DETERMINE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE EXISTS FOR A TRIAL.

HOUSE FIRE MAN ID’d 12/15/13 1704 GE

A MAN, WHO DIED IN AN APTOS HOUSE FIRE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH, HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED. 66 YEAR OLD RICK VANGELISTI, DIED OF THIRD DEGREE BURNS AND SMOKE INHALATION IN THE 12:30-AM FIRE AT HIS MONROE AVENUE HOME IN APTOS, THIS ACCORDING TO SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. VANGELISTI WAS FOUND ON THE TOP FLOOR WHERE HE LIVED. TWO OTHER RENTERS WERE NOT INJURED IN THE FIRE, AND THE CAUSE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

SALINAS WOMAN STRUCK 12/15/13 1650 GE

A WOMAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED ON SATURDAY NIGHT AS SHE ATTEMPTED TO WALK ACROSS NORTH MAIN STREET AT NAVAJO DRIVE IN SALINAS. POLICE REPORT THAT THE VICTIM WAS IN HER EARLY 20’S AND WAS IN THE CROSS WALK AT ABOUT 7 P-M, WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE, WHO REMAINED ON THE SCENE, TOLD INVESTIGATORS THAT HE DID NOT SEE WOMAN. THE VICTIM SUSTAINED LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A BAY AREA HOSPITAL.
