CITY COUNCIL ON COWELL CURFEW- 07-21-14 8:00 SG

THE SANTA CRUZ CITY COUNCIL WILL MEET TOMORROW (TUES) TO DISCUSS A CURFEW AT COWELL BEACH.     OFFICIALS WILL CONSIDER EXTENDING THE LIMITATION FOR A YEAR TO CONTINUE THE PREVENTION OF ILLEGAL CAMPING AND DRUG USE.      REPORTS OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AT THE BEACH HAVE REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE THE CURFEW WAS SET IN PLACE IN FEBRUARY 2013.     THE CURFEW IS FROM MIDNIGHT TO AN HOUR BEFORE SUNRISE.

CITY COUNCIL ON DEL MAR THEATRE- 07-21-14 8:00 SG

THE SANTA CRUZ CITY COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF THE DEL MAR THEATRE DURING A MEETING TOMORROW (TUES). THE DISCUSSION WILL FOLLOW A STATE RULING PREVENTING THE CITY FROM RETAINING THE LANDMARK AS A LONG-TERM ASSET. THE PROPERTY MAY GO UP FOR SALE AS A RESULT.    COUNCIL MEMBERS WILL ATTEMPT TO CONVINCE STATE FINANCE OFFICIALS TO CHANGE THE RULING.     IF THE PROPERTY GOES UP FOR SALE, THE COMPANY GEORGE OW PROPERTIES WILL HAVE THE FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL AS A SIGNER OF THE MASTER LEASE. IF DECLINED, THE CITY WOULD BE ABLE TO BUY THE THEATRE.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY DEPUTIES ARE WARNING THE PUBLIC OF PHONE SCAMMERS POSING AS LAW ENFORCEMENT WARRANT OFFICERS.     OFFICIALS SAY THE CALLERS AIM TO FORCE RESIDENTS TO PAY FINES FOR ALLEGEDLY SKIPPING JURY DUTY. THE SUSPECTS ASK THE VICTIMS TO PAY THE BAIL OR BOND BY PURCHASING CASH CARDS.    THE PUBLIC IS ENCOURAGED TO REPORT ANY PHONE CALLS OF THIS NATURE TO THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE.

A PACIFIC GROVE NON-PROFIT HAS DONATED THOUSANDS SHOES TO CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES.     THROUGH THE ONLINE ORGANIZATION FUND TO ORG, COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS FROM THE GATEWAY CENTER GATHERED MORE THAN 9-THOUSAND PAIRS OF SHOES FOR THOSE IN NEED.   PEOPLE RECEIVING THE SHOES IN CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES WILL BE ABLE TO WEAR OR SELL THEM FOR PROFIT.
