SALINAS CARJACKER-5/26/14-855-PMD

THE SALINAS POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A CARJACKING THAT TOOK PLACE OVER THE WEEKEND.   THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SUNDAY IN THE PARKING LOT OF AN EL POLLO LOCO RESTAURANT ON EAST MARKET STREET.    POLICE SAY THE VICTIM WAS SITTING IN HIS CAR WHEN A LATINO MALE ARMED WITH A PISTOL DEMANDED HIS WALLET AND CAR.   THE VICTIM GOT OUT AND THE CARJACKER DROVE OFF IN THE BEIGE 2004 HONDA SEDAN.  THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS BEING IN HIS MID TO LATE 20’S.  ANY ONE WITH ANY INFORMATION IS ENCOURAGED TO CALL THE SALINAS POLICE DEPARTMENT.

SC CO SWEEP-5/25/14-2130-PMD

A PRE-MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ANTI-CRIME AND DRUG SWEEP OF THE DOWNTOWN SANTA CRUZ AREA LED TO SEVERAL ARRESTS LAST WEEK.  SANTA CRUZ COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS COMBED THE LEVEE AREAS ARRESTING 3 TRANSIENTS ON DRUG SALES CHARGES, AND A 4TH TRANSIENT ON A FELONY WEAPONS CHARGE.  OFFICERS ALSO SERVED 2 FELONY BENCH WARRANTS ON A KNOWN DRUG HOME ON THE 1-HUNDRED BLOCK OF BIXBY STREET, AND 34 YEAR OLD ANTHONY ESPUDO AND 35 YEAR OLD CATHERINE LORENZO WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.   A 17 YEAR OLD JUVENILE WAS ALSO ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGES DURING THE SWEEP.

SCOTTS VALLEY CAR CHASE-5/25/14-2100-PMD

 SCOTTS VALLEY POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR THE DRIVER OF A STOLEN CAR.    AT ABOUT 1 A-M SATURDAY MORNING OFFICERS ON MOUNT HERMON ROAD, ATTEMPTED TO STOP A CAR DRIVING WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS.   THE DRIVER SPED OFF AND THEN FLED SOUTH TOWARDS SANTA CRUZ, GOING AGAINST TRAFFIC IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF HIGHWAY 17. THE SUSPECT HIT AT LEAST 1 CAR BEFORE ABANDONING THE STOLEN CAR NEAR THE PASATIEMPO OVERPASS.  ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ON THE INCIDENT IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE SCOTTS VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT.

SC COUNCIL MTNG WATER BUDGET-5/25/14-838-PMD

 

 

Santa cruz’s new water district manager is slated to outline strategies for the department’s budget.   At last weeks council meeting   rosemary menard proposed A 25 million dollar budget.  At tonight’s (tues) meeting, menard will outline how the water department plans to use the budget to address the aging infrastructure, the environmental impact issues, as well as the loss of revenue due to mandated water restrictions.  Menard, who has been the new water district manager for 4 months, would also like to implement a website that would allow the 94 thousand district customers to monitor their water usage in real time without reading their meters.  The meeting is tonight at 7 in council chambers, 809 center street.

Seaside pastor honored - 05/24/14. 23:55 S.S.

A Seaside pastor, who served his congregation for 54 years is slated to be honored in a couple of weeks. Although the Reverend Walton McGee is now 89 years-old and suffers from dementia, in an earlier time the street-corner preacher founded the Emmanuel Church of God in Christ. Services were originally held in a tiny white building at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and San Lucas Street, and now is Ina 1 million dollar church at 1450 Sonoma Avenue .   The retirement party is scheduled to begin at 6 p-m June 7th at the Monterey Bay Embassy Suites Hotel
