CA PROSECUTORS SETTLE WITH RETAIL COMPANY- 09-16-14 17:30 SG

STATE PROSECUTORS HAVE REACHED A $2.7 MILLION SETTLEMENT WITH A U.S. RETAIL COMPANY.    OVER 30 CALIFORNIA COUNTIES SUED THE PARENT COMPANY OF MARSHALLS AND TJ MAXX OVER VIOLATIONS OF HAZARDOUS WASTE LAWS.    THE CIVIL COMPLAINT WAS FILED AGAINST TJX COMPANIES INCORPORATED IN 2011 FOLLOWING AN INVESTIGATION BY THE MONTEREY COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH BUREAU.    INVESTIGATORS FOUND A MARSHALL’S FACILITY IMPROPERLY DISPOSING OF FLUORESCENT LAMPS CONTAINING MERCURY.    SIMILAR VIOLATIONS WERE DISCOVERED THROUGHOUT THE STATE.    THE SETTLEMENT WILL REQUIRE THE COMPANY TO KEEP RECORDS DOCUMENTING COMPLIANCE.

BODY FOUND IN LAGUNA GRANDE IDENTIFIED- 09-16-14 16:30 SG

SEASIDE POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE WOMAN WHOSE BODY WAS DISCOVERED IN LAGUNA GRANDE PARK YESTERDAY MORNING (MON).     THE BODY OF 58-YEAR-OLD CHARLENE LESLIE WAS FOUND FLOATING IN SHALLOW WATER AROUND 10:30.     INVESTIGATORS ARE TREATING LESLIE’S DEATH AS SUSPICIOUS.     AN AUTOPSY IS STILL PENDING.

A SALINAS-BASED FARM HAS ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR SOME TOMATOES (AND THE SALAD KITS THAT INCLUDE THEM). THE OWNERS OF TAYLOR FARM’S ARE CONCERNED THAT THOSE TOMATOES MAY BE CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA. THE EXPO FRESH ROMA TOMATOES, WERE SHIPPED TO VARIOUS COSTCOS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, WASHINGTON, AND LAS VEGAS. ONLY TOMATOES PACKED ON SEPTEMBER 5TH OR 6TH ARE AFFECTED. THE SICILIAN VEGETABLE SALAD SOLD AT DELI COUNTERS AT SAFEWAY, VON’S AND PAVILIONS GROCERY STORES IN CALIFORNIA, NEVADA, AND ARIZONA WITH USE-BY DATES OF SEPTEMBER 20TH AND 21ST MAY ALSO CONTAIN THOSE TOMATOES THAT MIGHT BE TAINTED.

MONTEREY AIRPORT DELAYS - 09/16/14 09:57 S.S.

PASSENGERS ON EVENING (AND EARLY MORNING) FLIGHTS OUT OF MONTEREY REGIONAL AIRPORT ARE BEING ENCOURAGED TO CHECK WITH THEIR AIRLINES PRIOR TO THEIR FLIGHTS BETWEEN NOW AND SEPTEMBER 23RD. THAT’S BECAUSE THE F-A-A-‘s INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEM HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY SHUT DOWN. BECAUSE THE I-L-S IS NOT AVAILABLE, WHEN THE WEATHER AND VISIBILITY DROP BELOW MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, FLIGHTS WILL BE DELAYED OR CANCELLED. FLIGHTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE BACK TO NORMAL BY SEPTEMBER 24TH.

THE MAN WHO HAS BEEN THE DIRECTOR OF THE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AGENCY IN SALINAS IS LEAVING THE AREA. BENNY YOUNG SAYS HE WILL RESIGN AS OF OCTOBER 3RD, DUE TO “PRESSING FAMILY REASONS”. COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER LEW BAUMAN SAID YOUNG “PROVED TO BE AN EXTRAORDINARY MANAGER WITH UNWAVERING PERSONAL INTEGRITY”.
