PABLO SANDOVAL DELAY 7/5/2012 11:30AM B.B.

NO NEW INFORMATION ABOUT THE SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE OF GIANTS THIRD BASEMAN PABLO SANDOVAL WILL BE RELEASED UNTIL NEXT WEEK, AS NEW INFORMATION HAS BEEN RELEASED TO DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING THE CASE. SANDOVAL WAS ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A 21-YEAR-OLD SANTA CRUZ COUNTY WOMAN IN JUNE. SANDOVAL HAS NOT BEEN ARRESTED OR CHARGED, AND WHEN THE INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETE, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY WILL DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT HE WILL FILE CHARGES.

6 ARRESTED FOR GANG FIGHT - 07/05/12 11:47 S.S.

1  ADULT  AND  5  TEENAGERS  WERE  ARRESTED  THIS  WEEK,   AFTER  THEY  WERE  REPORTEDLY  INVOLVED  IN  A  GANG  FIGHT  IN  SEASIDE.       THE  FIGHT  ALLEGEDLY  INVOLVED  KNIVES  AND  PIPES,  AND  TOOK  PLACE  NEAR  THE  INTERSECTION  OF  FREMONT  BOULEVARD  AND  ELM  AVENUE.      ALL  OF  THE  SUSPECTS  REPORTEDLY  HAVE  GANG  TIES.      ANYONE  WITH  ANY  INFORMATION  ABOUT THE  TUESDAY  AFTERNOON  FIGHT  IS  ENCOURAGED  TO  CONTACT  THE  SEASIDE  POLICE  DEPARTMENT.

READ AND RIDE CONTEST - 07/05/12 11:01 S.S.

A  SPECIAL  CONTEST,  ENCOURAGING  KIDS  TO  READ  BOOKS  THIS  SUMMER,   HAS  BEGUN.    THE  MONTEREY  COUNTY  FAIR’S READ  AND  RIDE  CONTEST OFFERS  FREE  CARNIVAL  RIDE  TICKETS  TO  CHILDREN  WHO  READ  A  CERTAIN  NUMBER  OF  BOOKS  THIS  MONTH.   2  FREE  RIDE  TICKETS  WILL  GO  TO  ALL  1ST AND  2ND GRADERS  WHO  READ  AT  LEAST  3  BOOKS  IN  JULY;  ALL  3RD AND  4TH GRADERS  WHO  READ  4  BOOKS  THIS  MONTH;    AND  ALL  5TH AND  6TH GRADERS  WHO  READ  AT  LEAST  5  BOOKS  THIS  MONTH.

A  RECORD  TURNOUT  (OF  814  RUNNERS)  REGISTERED  TO RUN  IN  THE  1, 5,  AND  10  K  RACES  THAT  WERE  PART  OF  YESTERDAY’S   27TH ANNUAL  SANTA  CRUZ  FIRECRACKER  RACES.       LANCE  BAKERLYDIA  FELKER AND  SEAN  O’CONNELL WERE  THE  FIRST  3  TO  CROSS  THE  FINISH  LINE  IN  THE  KIDS’  1 K  RACE;    WHILE  MALCOLM  RICHARDS,  OF  SAN  FRANCISCO,   WON  THE  5 K  (FOLLOWED  CLOSELY  BY  SANTA  CRUZ  RESIDENT  JAY  THOMSON,  AND  WATSONVILLE  RESIDENT  MICHAEL  YOUNG).     IN  THE  10  K  RACE,    PHILIP  POMPEI  (OF LOS  ALTOS)  CAME  IN  FIRST,   WHILE  MITCH  MORIARTY OF APTOS,   AND  DEREK  THOMAS  OF  SAN  LUIS  OBISPO,   WERE  THE   2ND AND 3RD PLACE  FINISHERS.

FILM-MAKING FOR TEENS - 07/05/12 10:55 S.S.

A  WORKSHOP  IS  SCHEDULED  TO  BEGIN   NEXT  WEEK,   FOR  TEENS  WHO  WOULD  LIKE  TO  LEARN  FILM-MAKING.  THE  5-WEEK  FREE  PROGRAM  IS  SCHEDULED  TO  TAKE  PLACE  AT  THE  JOHN  STEINBECK  LIBRARY ON  LINCOLN  AVENUE IN  SALINAS.     THE  ART  OF  STORYBOARDING,   SCRIPT-  WRITING,   FILMING,   AND  EDITING ARE  ALL  SCHEDULED  TO  BE  COVERED  IN  THE   5:30  TO  8  P.M.  TUESDAY  EVENING   WORKSHOPS,   THAT  RUN  FROM  JULY  10TH THROUGH  AUGUST  7TH.

Although  these  classes  are  free,  the  equipment  is  limited,   and  so  teens  will  get  accepted  into  the  program  on  a  first-come  first-served  basis.
