MARINA CITY OFFICIALS ARE CONSIDERING 2 PROPOSALS, TO REDUCE THE USE OF DISPOSABLE PLASTIC BAGS IN THE CITY. IN ONE OF THEM, INSTEAD OF PEOPLE HAVING TO PAY FOR STORE-OWNED BAGS, BUSINESSES WOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO GIVE CUSTOMERS A CREDIT WHEN THEY BRING THEIR OWN BAGS. IN ORDER TO PREEMPT A NEW STATE LAW, A FIRST READING OF ANY LOCAL DISPOSABLE PLASTIC BAG LAW WOULD HAVE TO TAKE PLACE BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1ST, AND WOULD HAVE TO GO INTO EFFECT BY THIS COMING JANUARY 1ST. TONIGHT’S MARINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING (WHICH INCLUDES THE PROPOSED PLASTIC BAG LAWS) IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AT 6:30 P-M THIS EVENING AT 11 HILLCREST AVENUE.
