MCo Emergency Proclamation 01-31-21 06:04 S.S.

Due to last week's winter storm, Governor Gavin Newsom has issued an Emergency Proclamation for both Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. That proclamation means that Cal-Trans can formally request immediate assistance from the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program. The washed out portion of Highway 1 at Rat Creek, about 15 miles south of the town of Big Sur, was given as an example of 'significant damage to infrastructure'.

Update: Highway 1 - Both Lanes Gone 01-29-21 22:27 S.S.

A section of Highway 1, near Rat Creek, about 15 miles south of the town of Big Sur, and 2 miles south of Esalen, is now completely gone. Debris flow from the Dolan Fire burn scar initially washed the southbound lane into the ocean, but now both north and southbound lanes (plus more) are gone. Cal-Trans has no estimate for the re-opening of this section of Highway 1.
Along with that, on February 2nd, Cal-Trans will also be working on Highway 1 (about 2 miles south of that) between Big Creek Bridge and the New Camoldi Hermitage. That roadwork is scheduled to be done between 8:45 and 2:30 p.m. and will include alternating lane closures.
