Due to confusion about the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out in California, some people have created a new website where seniors and others can easily figure out where seniors can get the shots. The Vaccinate CA website is updated daily by volunteers, and lists who has doses available and where.

The evacuation orders for both the River and Carmel Fire burn scar areas have been lifted, but the one for the Dolan Fire still remains in place. About 79-hundred people were evacuated from those 3 areas, due to concerns about debris and mudflows....and some of those did occur in both the River and Dolan Fire burn scar areas.

Due to last week's winter storm, Governor Gavin Newsom has issued an Emergency Proclamation for both Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. That proclamation means that Cal-Trans can formally request immediate assistance from the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program. The washed out portion of Highway 1 at Rat Creek, about 15 miles south of the town of Big Sur, was given as an example of 'significant damage to infrastructure'.

A section of Highway 1, near Rat Creek, about 15 miles south of the town of Big Sur, and 2 miles south of Esalen, is now completely gone. Debris flow from the Dolan Fire burn scar initially washed the southbound lane into the ocean, but now both north and southbound lanes (plus more) are gone. Cal-Trans has no estimate for the re-opening of this section of Highway 1.
Along with that, on February 2nd, Cal-Trans will also be working on Highway 1 (about 2 miles south of that) between Big Creek Bridge and the New Camoldi Hermitage. That roadwork is scheduled to be done between 8:45 and 2:30 p.m. and will include alternating lane closures.
