81 Schools Quarantined 02-06-21 22:37 S.S.

81 Elementary and middle school students, and 11 staff members, have been quarantined in a San Diego county school district. That's because 7 cases of Covid-19 were reported in the Escondido Union School District just 2 days after the district re-opened for hybrid, in-person learning. Air-filtration systems were in-place in the classrooms, the desks were distanced (with only 12 students maximum per classroom), temperature checks were done, and mandatory mask wearing was taking place.
It remains to be seen how Los Gatos schools, which also opened for in-person learning last week, faired.

UPDATE: Vaccines At Marina VA 02-06-21 16:19 S.S.

The V.A. Clinic in Palo Alto has been approved to administer vaccines at the V.A. clinic in Marina. That means that the 600 doses approved for local veterans will be able to be administered at the Major Gourley Outpatient Clinic in Marina next Saturday, instead of those veterans having to go to Palo Alto to get their shots. Those appointments on February 13th are open to all local veterans 75 years-old and older. Appointments can be made by calling the Palo Alto V.A. between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

No Canna Ads on Highways 02-06-21 16:13 S.S.

The deadline, to begin enforcement of a 2016 statewide ban, is coming up. The approval of the proposition (that allowed the sale of cannabis for recreational use) included restrictions on where billboards advertising it could be placed....and they can't be on interstate, or state highways, that cross state borders. Companies have until March 1st to remove their billboards from such highways.

Update: Highway 1 Closure - shorter 02-06-21 0751 S.S.

The northern end of the Highway 1 closure on the Big Sur coast has moved south from mile marker 34 to mile marker 32.6, just south of Esalen Institute. This will permit full access to the last businesses on the coast before reaching Rat Creek.

Crews will be working throughout the weekend (behind this new closure limit) to fortify a turnaround point at Lime Creek at mile marker 32.1, which is expected to be in operation by early next week. Located one mile above Rat Creek, the Lime Creek turnaround is planned to be the landmark limit for public travel south on Highway 1, while repairs are being made at Rat Creek.

The southern closure on Highway 1 will be moved north at 6 pm next Monday, February 8, 2021....from its current location at Willow Creek Road at mile marker 11.1, to mile marker 16.0 (just north of Pacific Valley). In approximately two weeks this southern closure is expected to move north up the coast again, to Big Creek Vista Point at mile marker 27.3 where a turnaround is being constructed.

There is still much repair work to be done on Highway 1, between Rat Creek and Big Creek Vista Point....and crews are working on it 7 days a week.
