Watsonville City Council members have approved a $414,000 dollar budget. That after the city received a higher revenue than expected during the pandemic. Due to the unexpected income, city staff has proposed restoring some of the funds for Police and Fire Department overtime pay, that had been cut from the preliminary budget. The last quarter increase seems to have largely been due to vehicle sales, and on-line sales tax revenue.

Watsonville city leaders have decided that the bust of George Washington will be moved from Watsonville City Plaza to the nearby library. There it will get an added bilingual plaque with a broader history. Most residents who spoke at last night’s Watsonville city council meeting, supported the removal of the bust that was installed in 2001 (as a bequest from a Watsonville resident who was an immigrant to this country).

An alternate housing site in Monterey county has had 5 new trailers added to the trailers that were already there. The original 15 trailers in San Lorenzo Park (in King City) are for residents who need to isolate as they recover from Covid-19, while the 5 new ones can be used either for guests, or when any of the original 15 need repairs....so no one has to be turned away due to a lack of space. Another alternate housing site was created in Salinas, but there they provide hotel rooms instead of trailers.
Both sites are staffed, and meals are provided, as well as routine medical visits. Although there are restrictions, some pets and service animals can be accommodated.
To be eligible for one of these spaces people need to be referred by either someone in the Monterey County Health Department, or a medical professional.
