Cal-Fire firefighters worked quickly yesterday to knock down a brush fire in the Scotts Valley area. That after a tree fell onto a powerline just before 10 a.m. on Jarvis Road in Scotts Valley. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to 3-quarters of an acre. Cal Fire reminds ALL Californians that there is still a Burn Ban in effect, due to unusually dry conditions.

Fire crews responded to a structure fire in San Juan Bautista yesterday after a fire broke out there. The fire was on the 900 block of Merentis Circle off of Monterey Street. The cause of that blaze is still being investigated.

An off-leash pitbull reportedly fatally injured a dog that was on a leash last week in Salinas. The attack reportedly took place near Tuscany Boulevard and Freedom Parkway around 5:30 p.m. The owner of the white pitbull that attacked the other dog has not yet been identified. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact the Salinas Police Department.
There is a leash law in Salinas and dog owners can face a 100 dollar citation for the first offense, 200 dollar for a 2nd citation, and 500 dollars for the 3rd. Criminal citations are also possible.

Survivors of this fire season’s wildfire, who may be eligible for disaster assistance through F.E.M.A. are encouraged to get their applications in before the December 11th deadline. Both grants and low-interest disaster loans are available for people who were negatively impacted by any of the wildfires that were declared disasters by the governor. The F.E.M.A. money can be used for paying rent, home repair, vehicle repair or replacement, funeral expenses and other disaster-related costs. Before registering with F.E.M.A., people need to file a claim for damage with their insurer.
