It’s unclear what will happen to a planned mixed-use affordable housing project slated for the 3.7 acre lot next to the Live Oak Supermarket on Capitola Road. That’s because contaminants have been found in the soil at the site at 1500 Capitola Road. The property is currently pending sale to Midpen Housing....and is designed to include 57 affordable housing units, a Dientes Dental Clinic, a Santa Cruz Community Health facility, a public plaza, and a community garden. People at the State Department Of Finance have gotten more time to review the plans for the project, and any mitigations needed.

Now Santa Cruz ex-mayor Justin Cummings has handed the reins to new Mayor Donna Meyers at yesterday’s city council. Sonja Brunner, the top vote-getter in the 2020 city council election, has been chosen as the new Vice Mayor.
Mayor Donna Meyers believes that the diversity available among city officials will allow them to best tackle new and pressing issues within the community.

A bill aimed at helping survivors of Domestic Violence has been introduced by local Senator Anna Caballero, since the beginning of the state shelter-in-place order in March, the state has seen an increased number of Domestic Violence and Domestic Abuse reports. Senator Caballero hopes to make the process of obtaining a restraining order. SB-24, also known as Calley’s bill, would add a level of protection in that this one would allow for children’s school, medical, and dental information could be kept from the abusive parent.

The deadline to pay the first half of Property Taxes in California is 5 p.m. tomorrow. As of 5:01 p.m. tomorrow, a fine (in the hundreds (or thousands) of dollars) gets added to the property tax bill.
