A new observation platform has been unanimously approved by the Pacific Grove City Council. Although the platform will still need state and regional approval, no land-based locale on the west coast would offer a better spot for both birders and researchers to observe pelagic, and migratory, bird species, than this location on Point Pinos....which is at the outer tip of the Monterey Peninsula. The 20 foot long, and 12 foot deep, platform would be built 5 feet off the ground on city-owned property that is part of the Pacific Grove Storm Water Treatment Facility.

A spokesman for the California State University system says their 23 campuses around the state now plan to re-open for in-person classes in the fall of 2021. University officials had hoped to bring students back for in-person instruction this month, but decided that the increase in the number of people with Covid-19 did not bode well for re-opening their classrooms. The hope is that with the vaccine rolling out, things will be better in the fall

A juvenile, who was wanted for attempted murder, was arrested Friday in the city of Soledad. That after he was apprehended while in possession of a handgun. It turned that gun was stolen out of the northern California city of Anderson.

The Commercial Dungeness Crab Season is now expected to open December 23rd. That's because the visiting whales have started to migrate to their winter breeding grounds. The Commercial season had been delayed due to concerns about the whales getting entangled in the fishing lines....and also because of low weight crabs in some areas.
