NO CHARGES FILED AGAINST FORMER MCO CANDIDATE 06-30-10 11:35 a.v.

Charges will not be filed against a former Monterey County treasurer-tax collector candidate who’s been accused of violating the state election code by making a false statement.  Complaints surfaced after the County’s Chief Deputy Auditor-Controller, Ron Holly violated an election code section, by claiming to be a lawyer while filing with the board of elections. Investigations proved that Holly never passed the bar exam and the school Holly claimed to attend, may have never existed.  Holly was reported saying that he did have a law degree but from an unaccredited correspondence school instead.  The D.A. decided to not file a charge since the issue was revealed to the public prior to the election and was discussed in the media.  The infraction carries a maximum fine of $1,000.
