STABBING IN SANTA CRUZ - 07/06/10 06:52 S.S.

2  SUSPECTS  ARE  BEING  SOUGHT  IN  CONNECTION  WITH  A SANTA  CRUZ  STABBING  THAT  OCCURRED  EARLY  YESTERDAY.    THE  REPORTEDLY  GANG-RELATED  INCIDENT  TOOK  PLACE  OUTSIDE  A  BEACH  STREET LIQUOR  STORE.    THE  SUSPECTS  FLED  THE SCENE  BEFORE  POLICE  OFFICERS  ARRIVED,   AND  THE  VICTIM  (WHO  WAS STABBED  IN  THE FACE  DURING  THE  ALTERCATION)    IS  SAID  TO  HAVE  BEEN  “UNCOOPERATIVE  WITH  POLICE”.

SUSPICIOUS BLAZE AT S J SCHOOL - update 07/05/10 18:00 S.S.

A  5-ALARM  BLAZE,  THAT  CAUSED  SIGNIFICANT  DAMAGE  TO  A  SAN  JOSE  ELEMENTARY  SCHOOL  THIS  MORNING,  IS  CONSIDERED  TO  BE  “SUSPICIOUS”.     THAT’S  BECAUSE  FIREFIGHTERS  SAY  IT  STARTED  IN  MULTIPLE  PLACES  IN  MERRITT  TRACE  ELEMENTARY  SCHOOL.  THE  FIRE,  WHICH  DESTROYED  THE  MAIN  BUILDING   (THAT  HOUSED  19   CLASSROOMS,   AND  THE  SCHOOL’S  LIBRARY),   WAS  CALLED  IN  AROUND  4:15  THIS  MORNING.     THE  SCHOOL,  (WHICH  SPECIALIZES  IN  VISUAL  AND  PERFORMING  ARTS),  IS  LOCATED  ON  DANA  AVENUE,   IN  THE  ROSE  GARDEN AREA  OF  SAN  JOSE.

SVMH BUYOUTS 07-05-10 10:50 a.v.

In hopes of saving money by offsetting a 5-million drop in revenue last year, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital is offering a buyout to 138 non-union hospital employees. With a July 16th deadline approaching for responses, hospital officials hope the voluntary offers generate 4-million dollars in savings. Recipients affected are those primarily in management and support services. The hospital is working with Wellspring consulting firm on an organizational redesign to cut costs along with other cost savings measures such as renegotiation of vendor contracts.

HOLLISTER BUDGET MTG. 07-05-10 10:40 a.v.

Hollister city council members are expected to consider a new budget plan this week. City officials tomorrow will discuss adopting a budget with a 12.5-percent cut to the general fund, along with reducing it’s staff and services. Consideration to adopt a budget with a total of 39.3 million dollars, including 14-million in spending from the general fund, is also on the meeting’s agenda. The council is slated to meet a t 6:30 p.m. at Hollister City Hall located at 375 5th Street.

SALINAS SHOOTING ARREST 07-05-10 10:20 a.v.

One man and 3 juveniles were arrested over the weekend in Salinas after several shots were fired during a party. Neighbors reported that someone walked out of a garage while a party was taking place on the 1800 block of Cherokee Drive around 11 p.m., and fired 4 shots into the air, and then went back to the party. Officers arrived to find several juveniles inside the home along with 21-year old Rigoberto Zavala, whom they arrested on probation violations along with resisting arrest. No gun or evidence of a shooting at the scene was discovered.
