MAN SENTENCED IN TRANSIENT’S DEATH 07-07-10 13:00 a.v.

A man charged with the death of a homeless man nearly 2-years ago at a Salinas truck stop, was sentenced today to community service. Orion Christopher Moore is expected to be on probation until his 4-hundred hours of community service, which also includes working with the homeless, is completed. Moore, who pleaded no contest to the December 2008 incident involving a 60-year old transient, is charged with causing the man’s death after inadvertently knocking him down, causing him to suffer fatal head injuries, while refusing his services to wash his car’s windshields. Moore’s assault charge was lowered from a felony to a misdemeanor during sentencing.

1 SHOT, 1 ARRESTED, 1 SOUGHT IN SANTA CRUZ - 07/07/10 19:51 S.S.

A  WATSONVILLE  GANG  MEMBER  WAS  ARRESTED  IN  SANTA  CRUZ  LAST  NIGHT,   AFTER  HE  AND  ANOTHER  MAN  ALLEGEDLY  YELLED  GANG  SLURS,  AND  THEN  SHOT  A  33  YEAR-OLD  MAN  (WHO  IS EXPECTED  TO  RECOVER).      21  YEAR-OLD  CAMERON  ANTHONY  DIEHL WAS  ARRESTED  AFTER  THE  10  P.M.  INCIDENT,   THAT  OCCURRED  AS  THEIR  VICTIM  WAS  WALKING  ON  THE  100  BLOCK  OF  SYCAMORE  STREET,   IN  DOWNTOWN  SANTA  CRUZ.    DIEHL’S ACCOMPLICE  IS  STILL  BEING SOUGHT.

 

THAT  SECOND  SUSPECT  IS  DESCRIBED  AS  A  5-FOOT  8-INCH  TALL18-20  YEAR-OLD,   THINWHITE  MAN.    ANYONE  WITH  ANY INFORMATION  ABOUT  THIS  SHOOTING,  OR  THE  IDENTITY  (OR  WHEREABOUTS)  OF  THE  2ND SUSPECT,   IS  ENCOURAGED  TO  CONTACT  THE  SANTA  CRUZ  POLICE  DEPARTMENT.

S.J. FATAL CRASH PG&E SETTLEMENT 07-07-10 12:40 a.v.

A San Jose mother is slated to receive a 5-million dollar lawsuit settlement after her daughter was killed in a fiery vehicle crash involving a Pacific-Gas-and-Electric utility truck. The mother, Lisa Bernstien agreed to the settlement last month after her daughter, 20-year old Mary Bernstein along with her boyfriend, died in the 2006 crash after the PG&E truck crashed into a group of cars stopped on an interstate 280 off-ramp. The driver, John Mayfield, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and was sentenced to spend 3 years in prison.

SALINAS RAPE ARREST 07-07-10 12:30 a.v.

Salinas police arrested a man monday night in connection with raping a 12-year old girl. 32-year old Rodolfo Barreto was taken into custody from his home around 10 p.m. He was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of forcible rape, oral copulation of a person under the age of 14, and child endangerment, kidnapping and false imprisonment.

THE  ORGANIZER  OF  THE  FIRST-EVER  SALINAS  SALSA  FEST SAYS  THAT  PEOPLE  LOOKING  FORWARD  TO  THE  EVENT  MAY  HAVE  TO  WAIT  UNTIL  FALL.     THAT  BECAUSE  ITS  TAKING  A  WHILE  TO  ACQUIRE  THE  NECESSARY  PERMITS  FROM  THE  MONTEREY  COUNTY  HEALTH  DEPARTMENT.      THE  EVENT,   WHICH  WAS  ORIGINALLY  SCHEDULED  TO  BE  HELD  JULY  16TH ,   IS   NOW  LIKELY  TO  BE  HELD IN  SEPTEMBER  OR  OCTOBER.
