WFD Battalion Chief Retires 07/08/10 E.A.

After nearly forty years, Watsonville Fire Department Battalion chief Will Farr has retired.  Farr’s career began in 1971 when he took the recruitment test out of moral support for a friend.  farr’s last shift was on wednesday.

Hollister School District teachers 07/08/10 E.A.

Bonuses have been added to a new retirement plan that was offered to teachers in the Hollister School District.  25 teachers accepted the offer, and those newly added bonuses will be at least 20-thousand dollars.  To be eligible for the bonus, the teachers had to be employed by the district for at leat 10 years.  those participating will receive 2-thousand dollars a year for each year they worked.

Hollister budget 07/08/10 E.A.

A budget for the city of Hollister was approved by City Council members on Tuesday.  The approved budget includes a general fund reduction of 12.5 percent, with cuts and layoffs very likely.  cuts to the police and fire department are expected. the Fire department would eliminate 2 captains and the police department would leave 2 vacant positions unfilled.

Rio del mar fire 07/08/10 E.A.

 

A fire on highway 1 that began around 4 am this morning has been extinguished by fire crews.  the fire affected vegetation off of highway 1 just north of rio del mar.  fire investigators say the blaze was started by a still-lit cigarette from a homeless encampment near by.  the fire was extinguished by 4:45 am and no injuries were reported.

King City Police Audit 07/08/10 E.A.

An audit of the King City Police Department is being considered by the King City Council.  The proposal to have an outside consultant investigate the department comes after several complaints from residents criticizing the department’s performance.  The City Council will discuss and decide the need to hire an expert at their meeting on Tuesday night, at the city’s recreation center.
