Firefighters are mopping up a structure fire that broke out early this morning at the Carmel Valley Athletic Club. The fire was reported just after 3:30 a.m. on the 1st floor of the Rancho San Carlos Road facility. Locker rooms in the tennis center were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, so far causing an estimated $500,000 in damages. Officials with the club say the main part of the athletic club will still open today around noon, however the tennis courts and pools with remain closed. No foul play is suspected, no injuries reported and investigations into exactly what caused the blaze continue.

No injuries were reported after shots were fired at an Olive Garden restaurant in Salinas last night. Police say someone starting shooting when a woman was changing a tire outside the Main Street restaurant just before 6:30 p.m. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arriving on the scene.

A drive-by shooting, that caused one person in Salinas to be injured Wednesday night, is being investigated. Police say the victim was in the driveway of a home in the 400 block of Calaveras Drive, when the passenger in a blue Plymouth van, that drove by just after 7 p.m., fired several shots at the victim. The victim was not struck by any of the bullets, but instead was cut by broken glass. The van is said to have solid yellow paper plates and tinted windows. Multiple shots were fired into a Watsonville home late Tuesday night. Police say the gunman fired at least 6-rounds into the McKenzie Court home around 11:30 p.m. No injuries were reported during the drive-by shooting. Police are investigating the incident as gang-related.
