SALINAS PAROLEE FIGHT, TASE AND ARREST 07-21-10 12:20 a.v.

A 40-year old parolee was tased and arrested last night after allegedly fighting with a Salinas police officer. The 8:21 p.m. incident took place when David Darcus was walking in the area of the Travel Inn Hotel on the 400 block of Monterey Street, when he retreated back into the parking lot area upon spotting a patrol car. Police say that once they contacted Darcus, he became combative and agitated when officers started to search him, and then bit and punched an officer. Darcus was booked into Monterey County Jail.

CARMEL PRESCRIBED BURN 07-21-10 11:50 a.v.

An 80-acre prescribed burn,is slated to take place outside of Carmel tomorrow (thurs).    The burn, which is aimed at suppressing weed vegetation and stimulate native plant growth, is expected to occur on the Brazil Ranch during daylight hours about 13.5 miles south of Carmel, weather permitting. Officials with Los Padres National Forest say that highway-1 in the area, could be affected by the prescribed burn, and smoke is expected to be visible for miles.

MONTEREY JOBS BUDGET PLAN MTG. 07-21-10 11:40 a.v.

A meeting to be held in Monterey today, is expected to discuss the endorsement of a budget plan that would protect California students from further cutes. The assembly budget proposal, the “Jobs Budget Plan”, is a response to statewide cuts of 17-billion dollars over the past 2 years.

2  PEOPLE,  ACCUSED OF  TRYING  TO  SELL  THEIR  BABY  IN  SALINAS  (FOR  25  DOLLARS),   WERE  IN  A  MONTEREY  COUNTY  COURT  ROOM  TODAY.  THEY  WERE  THERE  TO  SCHEDULE  A  PRELIMINARY  HEARING  DATE.  SAMANTHA  TOMASINI AND  PATRICK  FOUSEK ARE  SCHEDULED  TO  RETURN  TO  A  MONTEREY  COUNTY  COURT  ROOM  AUGUST  25TH AND  27TH.

CAPITOLA UNCONFIRMED SHARK SIGHTING 07-21-10 11:30 a.v.

Reports that several great white sharks seen at the Capitola Wharf yesterday, so far, have not been confirmed. The sightings were reported as of 5:30 p.m. by fishermen who say one of the 2 sharks they saw was 19 to 20 feet long and a much smaller one, which was reportedly seen swimming around their boat. Regardless of the sighting, authorities say the beach will stay open.
