Police in Santa Cruz broke up a large fight this morning, that left 1-person with stab wounds. At 1 a.m., officers came upon a group of between 15 and 20 men who were fighting in the street at Union and Center Streets. The group dispersed and fled, and no arrests were made. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man who had been stabbed during the altercation had already left the scene and driven to Dominican Hospital. It is believed the man was not involved, and was just standing nearby the group, when he was stabbed in the upper arm. The victim was treated and released. Police are unsure what caused the fight to break out.

A santa cruz man was arrested last night (thurs) who is accused of a string of burglaries at a local grocery store. Seth furasi had been wanted by authorities, after they say surveillance video footage showed him stealing frozen food, from a walk-in freezer at shopper’s corner. Furasi is suspected of robbing the freezer 9-separate times, stealing more than 2-thousand dollars worth of food. He was booked into santa cruz county jail on 9-counts of burglary, as well as possession of a controlled substance, and other charges.

A federal lawsuit has been filed against a Pebble Beach man who was convicted of raping a woman in his family’s liquor store. The victim who claims she was raped by Tom Pollacci, filed an amended lawsuit in Federal District Court earlier this month against the convicted rapist, his family and their corporation. Pollacci was found guilty of one count of rape in April and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. A trial date is slated for August 15 of next year; meanwhile, Pollacci has also been charged with 3 more rape counts against 2 other victims, he is set to appear in court next month on those charges.

Soledad fire officials are investigating a structure fire that broke out this morning at the 98-cent store located in a strip mall on the 5-hundred block of Front Street. Fire crews from Soledad, King City and Gonzalez arrived on scene around 4:30 a.m. The fire is believed to have been caused by the mis-use of electrical equipment, no injuries were reported, and damage was estimated to run about 10-thousand dollars.
