W.V. Teen Gang Member arrested 7/25/10 TDH

Watsonville police arrested a 17-year-old convicted gang member on Saturday, after they say they found him carrying a loaded shotgun.   After recognizing the teen at 4:30 p.m. on Rodriguez Street, an officer on patrol conducted a probation search of the suspect.   The officer allegedly found a loaded, 12-gauge shotgun on him, and the teen was arrested.   He was booked into Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall on charges of being an active gang member in possession of a loaded shotgun, and a probation violation.

Fatal Car Accident, Salinas 7/25/10 TDH

Few details have been released regarding a fatal car accident that occurred on Reservation Road, in Salinas today(sun). The wreck occurred around 5 p.m., between Blanco and Davis Roads.   The roadway was closed until 7 p.m. as crews cleared the scene.   At least 1-person is believed to have been killed in the wreck.

Food Stamp Changes 7/25/10 TDH

California Social Services officials have announced changes to the state's food stamp program.   The new policies make it easier for those who have been suspended from the program to re-start their enrollment once the problem has been fixed.  The previous guidelines required recipients to re-start the entire application process.   Now, easily-corrected problems (such as submitting paperwork) can re-activate enrollment with more efficiency.  About 3-million 270-thousand Californians are enrolled in the state's food stamp program. S.F.-area quake 7/23/10 TDH

A small earthquake struck the san francisco bay area this afternoon.   The quake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.5 struck at 2:29 p.m., about 9-miles southwest of san Francisco, near daly city.   No injuries or damage has been reported in connection with the quake.

Missing Live Oak man 7/23/10 TDH

Santa Cruz authorities are asking for the public’s help today, locating a 73-year-old man who went missing this week.   William Donald Moritz walked away from his Live Oak home on Tuesday, and was last seen near a Live Oak beach later that day.  Moritz suffers from a disease which affects his memory, however the condition may not be obvious to casual observers.   William Donald Moritz is described as 6-foot-3, between 200 and 225 pounds, has receding gray hair in a pony-tail and a 4 to 5 inch long white beard.   Anyone who sees him is asked to call 9-1-1.
