2-men were arrested in Salinas this(sun)morning, after a probation search allegedly turned up stolen goods and a wanted man. Police conducted the probation search of the residence on the 100-block of Columbine Drive, after 19-year-old Albert Jiminez had been identified as a suspect in a residential burglary. Police say they found several stolen items at his residence, and took Jiminez into custody. Officers also located 20-year-old Ramon Nunez in the residence, who was wanted by the California Youth Authority, and he was also taken into custody. Both were booked into Monterey County Jail.

A 39-year-old Santa Cruz man is in custody, after allegedly killing his girlfriend early Saturday morning. Wensy Sanchez was arrested without incident, at an apartment on the 300-block of Morrissey Boulevard. Neighbors called police around 4 a.m. to report a fight taking place, and when officers arrived, they found Sanchez sitting near the 41-year-old victim, whose throat had been cut. Medics were unable to revive her, and she died at the scene. Her identity is being withheld, until authorities can notify her family. This is the 6th homicide in Santa Cruz this year.

Fire investigators in San Jose are trying to determine what caused a residential fire this morning(sun) that left an 8-year-old girl dead. More than 50-firefighters responded to the blaze, which broke out at 1:42 a.m., at an apartment on Hamilton Avenue (in West San Jose). As crews battled the flames, a rescue team pulled the girl from the burning apartment, however she died shortly after being taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The victim was identified as North Carolina resident Adileni Gomez-Macedo. 10-other people suffered minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, and were treated at the scene. The flames were controlled by about 2:10 a.m. 6-families have been displaced by the fire.

A 48-year-old Santa Cruz man escaped a rollover accident on Saturday morning with minor injuries. The wreck occurred on northbound Highway-1, north of Rio del Mar Boulevard, at 12:30 a.m. The driver of the S.U.V. swerved to avoid traffic that had slowed down, and hit the center divider. The impact caused the vehicle to flip onto its roof and slide into a nearby car. The driver was able to walk away from the overturned vehicle, after being helped by witnesses. The road was closed for about 5 hours while Cal-Trans crews cleaned leaked fluids from the highway.
