GILROY POLICE OFFICER RECOGNIZED 07-26-10 10:50 a.v.

A Gilroy police officer has been recognized for his acts of heroism after saving the life of a 2 month old baby on July 9th. Officer Geoff  Guerin was acknowledged by the Gilroy Fire Department for providing excellent public safety services in partnership with the community after coming to the rescue of a woman on Forest Street, who said that her 2-month old granddaughter had stopped breathing. Officer Guerin applied procedures to clear the child’s airway, until she began to breathe on her own, and then waited for additional assistance to arrive. The baby was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and observation.

TORO PARK ROBBERY 07-26-10 10:30 a.v.

A suspect is being sought in connection with a robbery that occurred in Toro Park late Friday night. The 11:10 p.m. incident took place when the robber entered a 7-11 store on Portola Drive and pointed a gun at the clerk demanding money. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department.

AROMAS GAS STATION ROBBERY 07-26-10 06:50 a.v.

An armed man is being sought after robbing an Aromas gas station Saturday night. The robber, a Latino man in his 20’s, entered the San Juan Road gas station around 10 p.m., brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

SALINAS FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH 07-26-10 06:30 a.v.

1 person was killed and another was hospitalized during a fatal motorcycle crash in Salinas yesterday. The just after 5 p.m. incident occurred when a Yamaha motorcycle, traveling east on Reservation Road, collided into a Ducati motorcyle, which then struck a BMW causing the vehicle to go airborne ejecting it’s driver. The driver of the BMW, died at the scene, while the passenger of the Ducati was taken to a local hospital with major injuries.

Road work, Fishhook 7/25/10 TDH

Overnight paving work is scheduled to close a half-mile section of northbound Highway-1 near the Fishhook, in Santa Cruz this week.   A 5-10 minute detour will be in place to avoid the work, which is set to be performed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.     The roadway is scheduled to fully re-open on Thursday.
