A unanimous vote was reached today by Monterey officials to approve mitigation measures for a road improvement project at San Benancio Road and Highway-68. The board voted on a program of 4 measures to minimize environmental impacts from the project. The project would add a left-hand turn lane and widen the northbound approach of San Benancio Road.

A Live Oak man, who's been missing since last week, is now home. 73-year old William Donald Moritz was reported missing last Thursday after voluntarily walking away from his Senior Housing Network. Deputies say Moritz came back 2 days ago. An investigation into Moritz’s whereabouts revealed no wrongdoing was done on the part of the senior housing program since Moritz is allowed to come and go.
Meanwhile, Monterey police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who has been reported missing since Saturday. Officers say 58-year old Wayne Falcone, who was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and brown boots, was last seen at his home in the 300 block of Drake Street. Falcone uses a walker and reportedly usually has a cigar in his mouth.

A recall has been ordered for all “Raquel’s” brand food items. The recall was initiated after the California Department of Public Health detected bacteria in a processing plant. Health Department officials also found that an allergen, soy lecithin, is used in the production of Raquel’s brand products, but not listed on any labels. The recall is ordered for hummus products with a date of September 23rd or prior, and other products with a date of August 3rd or prior.

A proposal to begin construction on a retail project off Highway 68 in Salinas has been approved by the Toro Land Use Advisory Committee. The project would be built on Corral de Tierra Road , and would include 10 retail buildings, a few professional offices and a grocery store. The approval of this project sends a recommendation to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.
