A 25-year-old man was killed in Salinas this morning, in what police believe was a domestic dispute. Salinas police report that officers located the victim at 9 a.m., as they patrolled the area of lower Soledad Street. The man told police that he had been stabbed by a female acquaintance. Shortly after locating him, police received a 9-1-1 call from the woman, who reported the domestic dispute. Officers responded to her North Main Street residence, and took her into custody for questioning. The victim was transported to a Bay Area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Neither the victim’s, nor the suspect’s names have been released.

A strike-team comprised of local firefighters was dispatched to Southern California this morning, to help battle a wildfire that broke out yesterday(tues). The crew, made up of firefighters from Aptos, Scotts Valley, Branciforte, Zayante, and Central fire protection districts, are joined by a crew made up of Monterey County firefighters. They will add to the more than 250-fire fighters who have been called to contain the West Fire, which had burned about 14-hundred acres as of this morning. The blaze broke out yesterday, at 3:48 p.m., near the community of Old West Ranch, in Kern County (about 70 miles north of Los Angeles). 25-houses have been destroyed, and 150-more are threatened by the flames. The West Fire was about 25-percent contained, as of Cal-Fire’s last update at 8 a.m. this morning.

A 27-year old Watsonville man was taken into custody yesterday after attacking his girlfriend. Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a woman’s distress call around 4:15 p.m. near the intersection of Elkhorn and Garin Roads near Las Lomas to learn that a struggle began after the woman ended their relationship. The boyfriend, James Pray grabbed and bit the victim on the neck and wrestled her to the ground when she attempted to leave. Pray was arrested and booked into Monterey County jail on multiple charges including domestic violence.

Board members with the Hollister School District were able to prevent school libraries and computer lab services from being cut during a meeting held yesterday. $925,000 worth of cuts were being considered including custodians, instructional aides, library techs and computer supervisors. Although 20 employees, mostly part-time employees, were laid off, last night’s decision spared the jobs of 14 library and computer lab employees.
