S.V. arrest 7/30/10 TDH

A police investigation netted 2-arrests for a Scotts Valley robbery this week.   About 7-thousand dollars’ worth of tools were stolen from a city-owned yard on Lundy Lane, early Wednesday morning.   An investigation led police officers to a Santa Cruz storage facility, where they located several of the stolen items, and arrested 45-year-old Scott Alan Lane.   Lane allegedly gave officers information that led them to a Scotts Valley house, on El Rancho Drive, where a yard sale of some of the stolen items was already allegedly underway.  40-year-old Paul Rossi was arrested, and both suspects were booked into Santa Cruz county jail.

MARINA DOM. DISPUTE/STABBING 07-30-10 15:20 a.v.

Marina police are investigating a stabbing that took place over a domestic dispute between 2 brothers this afternoon. Police say the just before 1 p.m. incident occurred on the 300 block of Vera Lane near Reindollar. The victim, a 25-year old man was taken to the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after being stabbed multiple times in the back by his brother. The suspect has been taken into custody and officers are interviewing him. Police say the brothers apparently got into an argument over the treatment of a family member.

CARMEL REV. ARRESTED IN ARIZ 07-30-10 14:20 a.v.

A Carmel reverend was among the 32 protesters arrested yesterday in Phoenix during a rally held over the Arizona immigration Law. Reverend Gregory Scott Ward, with the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Monterey Peninsula, was taken into custody while blocking a downtown Phoenix street. Reverend Ward was expected to be released sometime today.

HWY 68 ROADWORK 07-30-10 14:00 a.v.

Caltrans officials have announced that roadwork has been completed on a 3-mile section of Highway-68. Striping is expected to begin this Sunday August 1st on the highway at the interchange with Highway-1 and the intersection at Canyon Del Rey Road. Work hours are from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Traffic will be allowed to flow in one direction on Highway-68, approximately 1 mile with work beginning in the eastbound direction first and no restrictions on the westbound direction. Eastbound direction of traffic will be detoured to Highway 218 to Highway 1 and back to Highway 68.

SALINAS CHILD MOLESTATION SENTENCE 07-30-10 10:55 a.v.

A Salinas husband and wife were found guilty yesterday on several counts of child molestation and abuse. 35-year old Keith Raul Rios sexually molested a young girl over the course of 6 years starting when the child was in 3rd grade. He faces 30 years in prison on multiple charges including numerous counts of lewd acts on a child. His wife, Maria Diaz was convicted of 2 felony counts each of child abuse, dissuading a witness and accessory to child molestation. She faces a maximum sentence of 9 years and 4 months in state prison.
