A woman in Moss Landing was shot with a .22 caliber rifle this week. Camille Thompson was leaving a friend’s home on the 19-hundred block of Salinas Road Wednesday, when Yvonne Davis allegedly grabbed her rifle from inside the residence and fired off a round. A bullet reportedly went through a wall and struck Thompson in the buttocks. Davis, who said the shooting was an accident, as of today, has not been arrested. Meanwhile, Davis’s 2 small children were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Monterey County officials announced today that a new director of health services has been named. Ray Bullick, who held the same title in Tulare County since 2005, is slated to start his new position in Monterey County on August 30th. He succeeds Len Foster, who retired this past April. Bullick began his career as a public health nurse in 1975. He holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Minnesota, and a master’s degree in health science administration from California State University, Fresno.

A former youth leader has pleaded guilty to charges of molesting an-11-year old Salinas church youth group member last year. 20-year old Erik Mendoza pleaded guilty to 2 counts of forcible lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. Mendoza, who is expected to receive 12-years in prison when he is sentenced on September 9th, reportedly molested the girl on the property of the Iglesia Pentecostal Nueva Vida Church.

A 43-year old man, out on parole, was arrested in Salinas early this morning on suspicion of stealing a vehicle. Police spotted the car, which had been reported stolen, at Williams Road and Grandhaven Street at around 1:30 a.m. Police stopped the driver of the vehicle, Mark Valenzuela, for a routine traffic stop, took him into custody and booked him into Monterey County Jail.
