A 21-month-old boy survived a fall from the 2nd-story of a Scotts Valley home this afternoon(Sun). The toddler fell between 10 and 15 feet, from a window at a house on Navigator Drive. He landed on a parked S.U.V., before he hit the ground, sustaining a chipped tooth and cuts to his face. He was in stable condition, however he was airlifted to San Jose with his mother, to be examined for internal injuries. The fall is believed to be accidental.
Santa Cruz County Supervisors are expected on Tuesday to consider providing a 3.2-million dollar grant to an area-non profit, to build more affordable housing in Aptos. The Board of Supervisors is expected to approve the money, for the organization Mid Peninsula Housing Coalition. The non-profit plans to build affordable rental units in the parcel known as The Miller Property, across from Aptos's Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center. As many as 40 units could occupy the site, which is one of a few approved by the County for additional affordable rental units.
A Salinas man was shot to death in Castroville early this(Sunday) morning, and 2-others were injured. At 3:17 a.m., Monterey County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of an injured teenager on the 11-thousand 5-hundred block of Jackson Street. They found Salinas resident Salvatore Dentice dead at the scene. He had been shot in the upper body. 2-other Salinas residents had also been shot in the upper bodies. They were taken to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. A 4th victim was shot at, but was not struck.
One person was killed, and another was hospitalized, after a shooting in Salinas on Saturday night. The shooting occurred in the Closter Park area, at 8:20 p.m. One victim had taken a taxi to the hospital by the time officers responded to the shots. The 29-year old was shot once in the torso, and was in stable condition Sunday morning. He informed police officers that there was another victim involved, and officers located him in a vehicle on the 8-hundred block of Beech Street. The 19-year-old man had been shot multiple times, and was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspects have been located.
San Benito County Supervisors have given tentative approval to a 37-million dollar budget, which would see 12 county workers laid off. The layoffs are part of an effort to close a 9-million dollar budget deficit. The preliminary budget spares the County's only library, in Hollister, which had been threatened with cuts or even closure. However, the library remains on the endangered list, as Supervisors also agreed last Friday to form a Special Budget Committee to explore further cuts.
