ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE ARREST/SALINAS MOTHER 08-19-10 19:15 a.v.

A 30-year old Salinas mother was arrested Wednesday after she threatened to kill her neighbor. Macarena Clyburn received a call, while she was at work, that her daughter was bitten by the neighbor’s dog.  Clyburn, who reported the incident to Salinas police, reportedly became upset over the officer’s response time to the incident, then went to the home of the 56-year old neighbor, in the 200 block of East Bolivar Street with a knife and threatened to kill her. Clyburn was arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, her bail has been set at $500,000.

SAN JUAN ROAD FATALITY 08-19-10 19:00 a.v.

One person suffered fatal injuries and 2 others were severely injured after a head-on collision occurred today in North Monterey County. 18-year old Gregory Arnold of Aromas was pronounced dead at the scene after he was traveling West on San Juan Road just before 8 a.m. this morning, when he crossed the Eastbound lane striking a Chevy Silverado pickup. Arnold’s passenger, a 16-year old Santa Cruz resident, who suffered major injuries, and the driver of the Chevy, 24-year old Miguel Alanis, were both airlifted to San Jose hospitals. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

LAS LOMAS DUPLEX FIRE 08-19-10 18:20 a.v.

15 people were displaced today after a fire destroyed a Las Lomas duplex.   Fire Crews responded to a call on Bowling Road, near Las Lomas Drive, around 11 a.m,. to find the duplex 50% consumed.   The fire reportedly started from a rubbish heap then spread to the roof and to nearby vegetation which burned less than an acre before crews were able to contain the blaze.   No other homes or structures were damaged, the fire caused an estimated $375,000 in total damages.

GILROY MASSIVE DRUG BUST 08-19-10 17:00 a.v.

3 men were arrested after what’s being called the largest drug bust ever in the history of Santa Clara County occurred today. 300 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 40 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of over 80-million dollars, were seized after a warrant was served at 7 a.m. at a home in the 2-thousand block of Roop Road and New Avenue in Gilroy. State officials believe the home may be connected to a drug cartel. A hazmat team was also called to the home. The 3 men, who were Mexican nationals, were booked in the Gilroy Police Department, and then transferred to Santa Clara County Jail.

FATAL CRASH THIS MORNING ON SAN JUAN ROAD - update - 08/19/10 11:30 S.S.

1  PERSON  DIED,   AND  2  PEOPLE  SUFFERED  MAJOR  INJURIES,   AFTER  A  HEAD-ON  CRASH  IN  NORTH  MONTEREY  COUNTY  THIS  MORNING.      THE  7:45  A.M.  FATAL  ACCIDENT OCCURRED  ON  SAN  JUAN  ROAD, NEAR  THE  PAJARO  HILLS – VEGA  AREA.        BOTH  OF  THE  INJURED  MEN  WERE  AIR-LIFTED  TO  AN  OUT-OF-COUNTY  TRAUMA  CENTER.
