100-million dollars is being provided by Pacific Gas and Electric to help the victims of the San Bruno fire along with the city to aid in restoration efforts. The fund is expected to become available by the end of the week to families whose homes were destroyed during Thursday evening’s fire, which began when a 50-year old P-G-and-E high pressured gas transmission line ruptured. The fire destroyed 37 homes, killed 4 people and injured dozens of others. The money will be used to help homeowners meet day-to-day needs with no strings attached, along with helping the city rebuild it’s parks, streets, and sidewalks.

Several Central Coast Red Cross volunteers traveled to San Bruno over the weekend to provide assistance to the victims of last week’s gas pipe explosion. Roughly 11 volunteers from both Santa Cruz and San Benito counties went to the site yesterday morning to help victims with mental health support and individual and family needs. San Bruno residents affected by the explosion, were allowed back into the burn site for the first time yesterday to examine their homes and belongings.

2 BROTHERS WERE ARRESTED THIS AFTERNOON, AFTER AN ALERT CITIZEN REPORTED SEEING A “SUSPICIOUS” VEHICLE CRUISING THE NEIGHBORHOOD. 23 YEAR-OLD ALEXANDER MONTANO, AND HIS YOUNGER BROTHER 21 YEAR-OLD AARON MONTANO WERE ARRESTED AFTER SALINAS POLICE OFFICERS NOTICED A HOME HAD BEEN “FORCIBLY ENTERED”. BOTH MEN WERE BOOKED INTO MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL, ON CHARGES OF BURGLARY AND CONSPIRACY.

A 58 YEAR-OLD OAKLAND MAN DROWNED OFF POINT LOBOS OVER THE WEEKEND. ALTHOUGH EMERGENCY PERSONNEL DID C.P.R. AFTER BRINGING ANDREW WITKIN UP OFF THE OCEAN FLOOR YESTERDAY (SUNDAY), AND THEY TRANSPORTED HIM TO COMMUNITY HOSPITAL OF the MONTEREY PENINSULA. WITKIN NEVER REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS.
