GREENFIELD POT PLANTS FOUND 09-23-10 15:55 a.v.

No arrests were made after Greenfield deputies confiscated over 600 marijuana plants this morning. The County of Monterey Marijuana Eradication Team along with narcotics detectives eradicated 667 mature pot plants this morning at around 9 a.m. near the Salinas riverbed. The plants along with several pounds of harvested marijuana, were also located and destroyed.

APTOS WOMAN ARRESTED 09-23-10 15:50 a.v.

An Aptos woman was arrested yesterday after items from recent burglaries were found inside her home. Some of the items, including antiques stolen from the Old Adobe House, were discovered while officers were conducting a probation search at the home of 44-year old Leah Bridge. Bridge was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary and was booked into Santa Cruz Jail.

U.S.G.S. TO COME TO S.C. - 09/23/10 14:03 S.S.

AN  OPEN  HOUSE  WAS  HELD  YESTERDAY  (WEDNESDAY)  ON  THE   SANTA  CRUZ’  WESTSIDE.    WHEN  A  FACILITY  ON  THE  28  HUNDRED  BLOCK  OF  MISSION  STREET IS  DONE  BEING  IMPROVED,   THE  U.S.  GEOLOGICAL  SURVEY’S  PACIFIC  COASTAL  AND  MARINE  CENTER  WILL    BE  LOCATED  IN  THE  OLD  JOHNSON-DIVERSEY  MANUFACTURING  PLANT….WHICH  WAS  ALSO  ONCE  KNOWN  AS  THE  OLD  WRIGLEY  BUILDING.   THE  WORK  BEGAN  A  COUPLE  OF  WEEKS  AGO,  AND  IS  SCHEDULED  TO  BE  COMPLETED  IN  MARCH.

K C TEXTING CHAMP - 09/23/10 10:00 S.S.

A  FORMER  KING  CITY  HIGH  SCHOOL STUDENT  CAME  IN  4TH IN  A  NATIONAL  CONTEST.      19  YEAR-OLD  ASHLEY  NUNES COMPETED  IN  THE  2-DAY  U.S. NATIONAL  TEXTING  COMPETITION THAT   WAS  HELD  IN  NEW  YORK  CITY.      IT  CONSISTED  OF  SEVERAL  DIFFERENT  CHALLENGES….INCLUDING TEXTING  COMPLETE  SENTENCES  WHILE  BLINDFOLDED.

SALINAS TEEN GETS SCHOLARSHIP - 09/22/10 19:06 S.S.

A  19  YEAR-OLD  SALINAS  WOMAN  HAS  RECEIVED  A  PRESTIGIOUS  SCHOLARSHIP.       C.S.U.M.B.  STUDENT  KAREN  MARTINEZ MOVED  TO  THE  U.S.  AS  A  13  YEAR-OLD,  AND  SAID  SHE  INITIALLY  FELT  OUT  OF  PLACE.     SINCE  SHE  LEARNED  ENGLISH,   MARTINEZ  HAS  RECEIVED  SCHOLARSHIPS  AND  CERTIFICATES  FOR  ACADEMIC  ACHIEVEMENT….ALL  LEADING  UP  TO  YESTERDAY’S  ANNOUNCEMENT  THAT SHE  HAD  RECEIVED  THE  WILLIAM  RANDOLPH  HEARST  SCHOLARSHIP….WHICH  IS  ONLY  GIVEN  TO  1  STUDENT  AT  EACH OF  THE  23  C.S.U.  CAMPUSES.
