Planet study released 09/30/10 TDH

The findings of a team of scientists studying a distant planet were released yesterday(wed).  U.C. Santa Cruz astrophysicist Steven Vogt led one of the teams of researchers, who spent 11 years studying the planet.  Their study, suggests that the climate and atmospheric conditions on the planet would make it possible for life to exist there.  Vogt designed a telescopic device that helped measure the planet’s sun.   The earth-like planet has been dubbed “gliese 581 g,” and is about 20-light-years away from earth.

CA execution canceled 6am 09/30/10 TDH

California officials have canceled what would be the state’s first execution since 2006.   Albert Greenwood Brown was scheduled to be executed by the state Wednesday, however that was postponed to today, and the plan has now been called off.   The attorney general’s office filed court papers yesterday, saying that they can no longer proceed with the execution, after a judge ruled he needed more time to evaluate the newly-established procedures   The state could’ve performed the execution this Friday, however the state’s supply of the drug used in the lethal injection will have expired by then.

A  MONTEREY  COUNTY  BEACH  HAS  BEEN  POSTED  WITH  WATER  QUALITY  ADVISORY  SIGNS.      OFFICIALS  POSTED  THOSE  SIGNS  TODAY,   AFTER  WATER  OFF  CARMEL  BEACH WAS  FOUND  TO  HAVE  HIGHER  THAN  NORMAL  LEVELS  OF  BACTERIA.       THE  WARNING  SIGNS  WILL  REMAIN  POSTED  UNTIL  THOSE  LEVELS  RETURN  TO  ONES  THAT  ARE  SAFE  FOR  HUMAN  CONTACT.

2 ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY - 09/29/10 20:57 S.S.

2  WOMEN  WERE  ARRESTED  TUESDAY,   AFTER  THEY  ROBBED  SOMEONE  THEY  KNEW  IN   WATSONVILLE.     21  YEAR-OLD  WATSONVILLE  RESIDENT VANESSA  ORONA, AND  20  YEAR-OLD  LA  SELVA  BEACH  RESIDENT  SHADDIA  VERNER, ARE  ACCUSED  OF  TAKING  THEIR  19  YEAR-OLD  VICTIM’S   BACKPACK,   AFTER  GETTING  INTO  A  CONFRONTATION  WITH  HER  ON  EAST  LAKE  AVENUE NEAR  BREWINGTON  AVENUE.      ORONA  AND  VERNER WERE  BOOKED  INTO  SANTA  CRUZ COUNTY  JAIL.

A  GRASS  FIRE  BURNED  ABOUT  16  ACRES  OFF  METCALF  ROAD (NEAR  BAILEY  ROAD)  NORTH  OF  MORGAN  HILL THIS  AFTERNOON.    THE  BLAZE  WAS  CALLED  IN  AROUND  12:30  P.M.  EAST  OF  HIGHWAY 101.       NO  STRUCTURES  WERE  DAMAGED  AND  THE  CAUSE  OF  THE WILDFIRE  IS  STILL  BEING  INVESTIGATED.
