Domestic Violence Awareness 10/03/10 10:45pm TDH

In honor of domestic violence awareness month, an event is planned for Monday in santa cruz.   From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a coalition of groups will be displaying original T-shirts, designed by survivors of domestic abuse.   “The Clothesline Project” is being hosted by the Walnut Avenue Women’s Center, Women’s Crisis Support/Denfensa de Mujeres, and the Commission for the Prevention of Violence Against Women.  The artwork will be displayed on Pacific Avenue and Cooper Street, and for a 20-dollar donation, you can design your own shirt.   5 people have been killed in Santa Cruz County this year, due to domestic violence.

Alisal game moved to S.B.C. 10/01/10 TDH

Tonight’s football game between Alisal High and San Benito High has been moved to the San Benito High campus.   That’s because of a shooting that occurred at the entrance to Alisal High School this morning.  A 15-year-old is in critical condition, and the shooter has not been caught.  Police are reviewing surveillance video-footage that might have captured the incident.

Budget talks 10/01/10 5:30pm TDH

State lawmakers met with the governor again today(Fri), to try to work out an agreement on a budget.  5-hours of talks yesterday failed to yield any results, however Republicans reportedly believe a deal will be reached soon.   If the negotiations continue beyond next week, the state could have to start issuing I.O.U.s.  This is the longest California has ever gone without an operating budget.  Lawmakers are trying to compromise on how to close a roughly 19-billion dollar deficit.

Fatal 101 Crash 10/01/10 4:30pm TDH

1-person has died, and another is in critical condition, after being involved in a car-accident this afternoon in Greenfield.   The single-vehicle wreck occurred at 1:30 p.m., on southbound Highway-101 near Walnut Avenue.   The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Alisal Victim in Critcal Condition 10/01/10 4:30pm TDH

Salinas’s Alisal High School was placed on lockdown this morning, after a 15-year-old boy was shot multiple times.   The victim was assaulted just before 8 a.m., as he neared the entrance of the school on burke street.  The victim was taken to a hospital, and is in critical condition.   The shooter fled on foot, toward Camarillo Court, and has not been located.    The Alisal campus remained on lockdown until about 9:30 a.m.   The incident occurred less than a-half-mile from the scene of Tuesday’s murder of 17-year-old Ulises Jacobo-Corona. This shooting is being investigated as gang-related.
