FORMER FORT ORD PRESCRIBED BURN – IGNITED - 10/07/10 S.S.

A prescribed burn was  ignited at  10:22  this  morning,  at Burn Unit 15 on the former Fort Ord.   This burn unit is about 110 acres.    It is expected that today’s prescribed burn may take about two hours.     If weather conditions permit, a prescribed burn may also be started at Burn Unit 21 -- about 167 acres.   This 2nd burn may also take about 2 hours.   For more information, people can call the hotline at 1-800-852-9699,  or check on-line at:

A  MARINA  MAN  WAS  THE  RECENT  VICTIM  OF  A  PHONE  SCAM.       REPORTEDLY  THE  MAN  MAILED  10  THOUSAND  DOLLARS  (IN  PAPER  MONEY)  TO AN  ADDRESS  IN  NEW  YORK  CITY.    THIS  CASE  HAS  BEEN  FORWARDED  TO  THE NEW  YORK  CITY  POLICE  DEPARTMENT.

GIRL ARRESTED - 10/07/10 08:54 S.S.

A 7  YEAR-OLD  GIRL  WAS  ARRESTED  AFTER  SHE  ASSAULTED  HER  FATHER  RECENTLY  IN  MARINA.     THAT  ASSAULT  TOOK  PLACE  IN  FRONT  OF  POLICE  OFFICERS,   WHEN  A  VERBAL  DISPUTE  (BETWEEN  THE  GIRL  AND  HER  FATHER)  ESCALATED.      THE  GIRL  WAS  ARRESTED  FOR  BATTERY,   AND  RELEASED  (ON  A  CITATION)  TO  HER  MOTHER.

2 WOMEN ARRESTED - 10/07/10 08:26 S.S.

2  WOMEN  WERE  ARRESTED  AFTER  THEY  TRIED  TO  CASH FRAUDULENT  TRAVELERS  CHECKS  IN  HOLLISTER  RECENTLY.      SECURITY  CAMERAS  AT  THE  STORE  CAUGHT  THE  WOMEN  FLEEING  THE STORE,  AND  SHOWED  LAW  ENFORCEMENT  OFFICERS  THE VEHICLE’S  LICENSE  PLATE.       THE  WOMEN  WERE  ARRESTED  NEAR  TRES  PINOS,  AND  THEY  WERE  BOOKED  INTO  SAN  BENITO  COUNTY  JAIL.

Hollister Solar Farm 10/07/10 0800 E.A.

A solar farm in Panoche Valley has been officially endorsed by the Hollister City Council. The city council unanimously supported the 420-megawatt solar farm, which is expected to cost 1.2 billion dollars. Solargen Energy expects that at least 150 jobs will be created during the construction of the farm. The solar farm is slated to be voted on by San Benito County Supervisors in the coming months.
