SBC Election Forums 10-18-10 1700 e.a.

Two more public forums are scheduled to take place in San Benito County before the November 2nd elections.  The first is planned to focus on candidates for the San Benito High School District and is scheduled for 4:15 PM on October 21st at the San Benito High School Cafeteria.  The second forum is being organized by the Oak Creek and Quail Hollow Neighborhood Watch Group, and has invited candidates for Sheriff, District 4 Supervisor, San Benito County Board of Education and the 28th District for State Assembly.  That forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 28th, at Ladd Lane Elementary School.

New Animal shelter hours 10-18-10 1600 e.a.

New hours for the Hollister Animal Shelter will take effect this month.  Hollister City Council members voted to return the animal shelter to a Monday through Friday schedule.  For nearly 2 years, the shelter operated on a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, to accommodate people who are busy during the week or out of town.  Starting on October 23rd the shelter will be open noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Salinas business incentives 10-18-10 1600 e.a.

The first projects resulting from an incentive package in the city of Salinas have been announced.  A four-story Hampton Inn and a 159-thousand-square-foot Lowe’s home improvement store are moving forward due to reduced fees and shared taxes, that are part of an incentive package that was approved in July.  Between the two projects, about 125 jobs are expected to be created within the city.  Among the incentives included in the package are a reduction in building fees, a reduction in property taxes for a set number of years, and the establishment of a revolving-loan fund.

K.C. GUN/DRUG ARREST 10-18-10 13:00 a.v.

An 81-year old man was arrested after a narcotic search warrant was served at his home in King City over the weekend. Salvador Romero was taken into custody yesterday after officers discovered 2-pounds of marijuana, a loaded handgun and cash at his Lonoak Road Home at 8 p.m. Romero was booked into Monterey County Jail on charges of possessing marijuana for sale and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

CASTROVILLE MAN BEING SOUGHT 10-18-10 12:30 a.v.

A Castroville man accused of physically striking and biting a man is being sought. Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report on October 10th of a verbal argument that turned physical on the 11000 block of Rico Street. The suspect Serapio Hernandez reportedly struck the victim on the head with a large buckle attached to a belt prior to biting him in the back. The victim was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital for treatment.
