2-people have been arrested in scotts valley, for allegedly growing and selling marijuana. The investigation began when a woman attempted to send a suspicious-looking package across state lines. Store employees opened the package, which contained 1-pound of marijuana, and they contacted police. Officers located and arrested 36-year-old Eva Marie Lyons. They say she told them about a marijuana grow-operation in the Santa Cruz mountains, and police searched the property. They located 7-pounds of marijuana packaged and ready for sale, as well as 5 additional pounds of cut marijuana. Police arrested the property owner at the station, alleging that 33-year-old Jamie Andrew Merritt participated in the operation. He is charged with conspiracy, as well as cultivation and sales of marijuana.

The 1st of 2 scheduled workshops to offer information and advice in response to violence against women is set to held today(thurs) in capitola. The community meeting will address all kinds of violence, and offer a discussion forum, as well as techniques in dealing with violence. The meeting is being offered by the commission for the prevention of violence against women, and is set to be held at the united way of Santa cruz county building, at 1220 41st avenue, suite c.

2-suspects were arrested, and salinas police are looking for 1-more, after a man was car-jacked yesterday afternoon. The victim had parked his vehicle on park street, near central park, when a group of 3-young men got in his car, demanded his keys at gunpoint, and sped away. Officers began pursuing the vehicle just after 3:30 p.m. 18-year-old andrew chavez, and a 17-year-old were arrested after the car crashed at west market and capitol streets. Police believe another suspect got away, and are continuing to investigate. Police also believe the 2-suspects were involved in an attempted homicide at wal-mart in september. Chavez was also charged with a prior burglary.

Salinas Police are warning residents to be cautious when solicited by door-to-door salesmen, after a house was robbed yesterday. The resident of the house on the 1-thousand block of told police that she was solicited by 2-men who claimed they were from a company called Rainbow Vacuum. She told them she didn’t have time for their demonstration, and when she returned home later, her front door had been kicked-in, and her house had been robbed. Police remind residents to always ask for identification and credentials from door-to-door salesmen.
