Chase, arrest 11/14/10 TDH

Capitola police arrested a 24-year-old man this weekend, after the man crashed his car trying to flee from officers.   Vance Scott Pavia was allegedly driving in the middle of 41st avenue, when an officer tried to pull him over at 1:15 a.m. Saturday.   Pavia fled, and hit a road sign, which caused him to lose control.  The car rolled over, and landed in the driveway of a house on Thompson Avenue.  Pavia and a passenger were taken into custody, and sustained minor injuries in the roll-over.  Pavia was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, and evading a police officer.

Utilites district, L.O. 11/14/10 TDH

The santa cruz county board of supervisors is scheduled this week, to consider creating a new special utilities district in Live Oak.  The measure would allow for funding to be established for underground utilities in the district, which is proposed to run along East Cliff Drive (from 5th avenue to 18th Avenue).   The Board is set to meet at 9 a.m. tomorrow(Tues), at 701 Ocean Street, to discuss the measure.

Spying P.G.& E. Official Resigns 11/14/10 TDH

P G & E’s senior director of the utility’s smart meter program has resigned, after being caught spying on opponents of the new wireless meters.   William Devereaux resigned from his position last week, after it was discovered that he had been using a fake name to converse with Smart Meter opponents online.   Devereaux was caught when an email he sent to a group concerned about Smart Meters’ health risks revealed his real name.

Attempted Shooting, Sal. 11/14/10 TDH

 An attempted shooting was reported in Salinas on Sunday.   A man in his 20s told police that he had been approached by another man just after 8 a.m.   The victim said the man started talking to him, then pulled a gun out and attempted to fire it.  The gun did not go off at first, and the suspect fled.  He reported hearing the gun go off as he ran away.  No injuries were reported, and the victim told officers that he was unaware of any motive for the attack.

Salinas Shooting 11/14/10 TDH

A man was shot in Salinas on Saturday, as he walked on the 9-hundred block of Acosta Plaza.   By the time officers responded, the victim had already been taken to a local hospital.  He told police that he had heard gunshots just before 11 p.m., and realized that he had been struck in the leg.   He was treated and released from the hospital, and police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the assault to call the anonymous crime tip line, at 1-800-78-crime.
