Soccer Kits For Kids 12-07-20 00:37 S.S.

Hundreds of soccer kits were handed out to kids Saturday. That's so that the kids can practice at home during the pandemic. The kits include a soccer ball, watch, ladder for drills and practice videos made by professional players. People with the Chevron Soccer Academy plan to distribute the kits to more kids as time goes on.

Cold-Case Arrest 12-06-20 07:50 3 S.S.

A 63 year-old man has been arrested in connection with a murder that took place 25 years ago in Santa Cruz county. Forensic evidence now links John Laroche with the killing of 41 year-old Gloria Hassemer, who's body was found along the Pajaro River Levee on June 10th of 1995. She was last seen that morning, walking along Water Street in Santa Cruz. Laroche was arrested near his home in Turlock....and based on his history investigators believe there could be other such victims. Anyone with further information on this case is encouraged to contact the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

Tri-County Stay-At-Home - timing 12-06-20 07:23 S.S.

Although the health officers of 5 Bay Area counties have decided to enact the Regional Stay-At-Home order early, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties are not doing so....at least not yet. The new Stay-At-Home order will go into effect at 11:59 p.m. tonight for the counties of San Francisco, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara, as well as the city of Berkeley. It will go into effect in Alameda county Monday night December 7th, and in Marin county on Tuesday December 8th.
Health officers in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties are still considering whether to move into the new order earlier than state mandate requires or not.
San Benito county will move into the new Stay-At-Home order at 11:59 p.m. tonight, along with the other 11 counties in the San Joaquin Valley region.

When the new State-At-Home order is implemented, the following sectors will close:

Indoor and outdoor playgrounds
Indoor recreational facilities
Hair salons and barbershops
Personal care services
Museums, zoos and aquariums
Movie theaters
Wineries
Bars, breweries and distilleries
Family entertainment centers
Cardrooms and satellite wagering
Limited services
Live audience sports
Amusement parks


Here's what can remain open:

Outdoor recreational facilities: Only without any food, drink or alcohol sales.

Overnight stays at campgrounds not permitted.

Retail: Indoor operation allowed at 20% capacity with entrance metering and no eating or drinking in the stores. Additionally, special hours should be instituted for seniors and others with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems.

Shopping centers: Indoor operation allowed at 20% capacity with entrance metering and no eating or drinking in the stores. Additionally, special hours should be instituted for seniors and others with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems.

Hotels and lodging: Allowed to open for critical infrastructure support only.

Restaurants: Permitted only for takeout or pickup.

Offices: Remote only except for critical infrastructure sectors where remote working is not possible.

Places of worship: Outdoor services only.

Entertainment production including professional sports: Permitted without live audiences. Additionally, testing protocol and “bubbles” are highly encouraged.

California’s virus hospitalizations have nearly quadrupled since mid-October and now stand at nearly 10,000, including more than 2,200 in intensive care units. The California Department of Public Health reported 19,582 deaths since the start of the pandemic, including at least 220 health care workers.

Here's a rundown of the five regions and counties that fall into each:

Northern California: Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity

Bay Area: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma

Greater Sacramento: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba

San Joaquin Valley: Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Benito, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, Tuolumne

Southern California: Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.

Hwy 9 SHOOTING 12/4/20 5A CI

Investigators with the Santa Cruz Police Department are asking for the public’s help with a shooting in the Santa Cruz mountains that happened Wednesday evening.

The victim was shot in the leg and found in a campsite on the hillside above Sycamore Grove. Investigators believe the shooting occurred near the railroad tracks. The victim is not giving any information about the suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to please call the Santa Cruz police department.
