Al fresco dining parklets placed in the Capitola Esplanade could be made permanent. That’s because city leaders are deciding whether to keep these installations at the cost of reducing parking spaces when restaurants can revert to indoor dining operations.
Currently, 25% of parking available in the Esplanade is taken up by these parklets.
Various event organizers state the parking is necessary when events return to the city, and parking spaces generate $3,000 dollars for Capitola.
The proposal to make these permanent will be discussed at a Capitola city council meeting next month followed by a review by the California Coastal Commission if approved by city leaders.
