A Ben Lomond man has been awarded the Civilian Distinguished Service Medal….the highest Civilian honor given by the Sheriff’s Office. Sam, who lived near where Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was ambushed and killed, reportedly stopped the Boogalloo member (several times) after he heard the shooting, and was able (with other neighbor’s assistance) to detain the shooter until other officers could get there and arrest the suspect….who is believed to have also killed a Federal officer in Oakland….shortly before the Ben Lomond shooting.
