Big Basin Redwoods 11.20.20 7a Ci

Just three months after the C-Z -U fire destroyed Big Basin Redwoods State Park and already there are signs the mighty redwood trees are experiencing a rebirth.

A drone video shot earlier this month shows some of the burned redwoods are sprouting green growth. For the past month park rangers have been canvassing big basin trails looking for damaged trees and have found the Douglas fir is not as fire resistant as the redwoods and many of the burned Douglas firs will not survive the winter.

Meanwhile… Big Basin will likely remain closed for at least a year because of the extensive damage to structures but private organizations have raised almost 6oo thousand dollars to help with immediate needs.
