From CALTRANS:

PAVEMENT REHABILITATION PROJECT ON STATE ROUTE 1 TO RESULT IN NOISE AND VIBRATION NEAR BIG SUR THIS WEEK

MONTEREY COUNTY – A Caltrans pavement rehabilitation construction project along State Route 1 from the Torre Canyon Bridge in Big Sur to just south of Carpenter Street in Carmel continues this week.

This week, crews are working overnight in a southbound direction to apply permanent striping and to install reflective pavement markers.

Note: Overnight work to install permanent pavement markers involves grinding of the pavement which results in significant levels of noise and vibration.

Overnight work on Wednesday, Oct. 28, will move southbound, from just below the Bixby Bridge, to near Andrew Molera State Park.

Overnight work on Thursday, Oct. 29, is scheduled to begin at Andrew Molera, and proceed south to near Nepenthe.

Overnight work hours on Wednesday and Thursday will be from 7 pm to 6 am.

No overnight work will take place on Friday, Oct. 30 or Saturday, Oct. 31.

These are the currently scheduled locations for work and are subject to change due to any necessary servicing of equipment, weather conditions, and other factors.

Because of the distances involved in the work zone, motorists overnight will continue to encounter one-way traffic control and can expect delays of 20 to 25 minutes.

Electronic message signs will be activated to inform the public about this roadwork. This roadwork is necessary for the safety of travelers and to protect adjacent properties. The contractor for this $24 million project is Granite Rock Company of San Jose, CA. It is scheduled to be completed by next summer.
