Smaller Theme Parks Can Reopen 10/20/20 21:31 DC

Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood and other big theme parks in California can’t reopen until they’re in the lowest tier of coronavirus restrictions. But, smaller parks and outdoor stadiums can resume operations in areas with tier 3 status, the state said on Tuesday.

Officials revealed guidelines that will pave the way for the state’s smaller theme parks to receive visitors for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic forced their closures in March.

Smaller theme parks can resume operations in tier 3 (moderate/orange) regions by following the following rules:

  • Limit capacity to 25% or 500
  • May only open outdoor attractions
  • Ticket sales limited to visitors from the same county

All parks can resume in tier 4 with a limited capacity of 25%, and parks must also screen guests for symptoms and mandate face coverings.

Outdoor stadiums are covered by their own rules (not included here).
