Coronavirus Tier System Update 10/20/20 16:47 DC

California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr Mark Ghaly gave an update Tuesday on the coronavirus pandemic.

Personal care services

Weeks after salons and barbershops were given the OK to reopen indoors with modifications, Ghlay said Tuesday that all personal care services can resume indoor operations.

The new guidelines apply to businesses like tattoo parlors, hair removal and massage businesses.

California health officials also gave an update on where the state’s dozens of counties stand on the reopening “tier” framework.

Here’s a breakdown of which counties have changed tiers:

New counties in the orange (moderate) tier

  • Butte County
  • Napa County

New county in the yellow (minimal) tier

  • San Francisco County

New counties moving back to the purple (widespread) tier

  • Riverside County
  • Shasta County

COVID-19 is from the coronavirus family, which includes the common cold but also more serious illnesses like SARS and MERS. For most people, COVID-19 causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness and death.
