Firefighters were able to contain a fire in Monterey county Friday afternoon. Although it began in an abandoned structure near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 8th Street, it did spread to some vegetation before firefighters got it under control. Firefighters from both the Marina and Presidio Fire Departments stayed on-scene to monitor any hot spots.
