The man known as the Golden State Killer avoided a trial by entering a plea in a Sacramento courtroom. 74 year old Joseph DeAngelo pled guilty in connection to 13 murders, 50 plus rapes and over 100 burglaries. The crimes took place in the mid to late seventies. Detectives used DNA genealogy sites to locate a distant relative of DeAngelo to eventually locate him and match his DNA to several crime scenes.
