CHP – Essential Travel Only +Beach Info 05-23-20 09:57 S.S.

In-line with the Governor’s Order, the C.H.P. is requesting that people ONLY travel for essential activities…..and traveling hours to get to a beach us not considered one of those. Law enforcement continues to stress the importance of physical distancing. Although many beaches have stayed open in Monterey County, that’s only so people can exercise on them. In Santa Cruz county, beaches are closed from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, and even when they are open, it’s only for active purposes. No beach in Santa Cruz, or Monterey, counties allows umbrellas, ice chests, or any other accoutrements that are part of lounging and relaxing. The beaches are ONLY open for active uses.
On top of that, warning signs have been posted at Monterey Municipal Beach due to high levels of bacteria found in the ocean water there. The signs will remain posted until newer samples show that the water there is once again safe for human contact. People can call the Monterey Peninsula Beaches Hotline, or go on-line to www.mtyhd.org/beaches, for further information. The Hotline number is (831) 755 4599.
The C.H.P.’s holiday weekend Maximum Enforcement Period began at 6 p.m. last night.
