The California Office of Emergency Services says 10 members of the California Air National Guard are now assisting passengers quarantined cruise ship passengers. Some 21 people are being housed at the Asilomar Hotel and Conference Center, a state-owned facility in Pacific Grove.

The passengers, from the Grand Princess cruise liner, are expected to leave their 14-day quarantine this week. The results of their COVID-19 tests have not been released.

Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom said guardsmen would be pressed into service during the coronavirus pandemic, mostly assisting with food distribution. Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties have reportedly had troops assigned.
