Sea water mixing in local aquifers has been an ongoing issue in the Monterey Bay area.
Last year, Soquel Creek Water District was awarded 50-million dollars for a project that will mitigate this challenge in delivering clean water.
Senator Bill Monning spoke about the award in an interview with KSCO. In the interview, Monning discussed the lengthy process in garnering support of leaders, and how aquifer injection can support the “safe clean drinking water effort”.
The project has a price tag of 90-million dollars, and is expected to be complete by 2022.
