New information has been released regarding a recent officer-involved shooting in Salinas. That incident reportedly took place on the 400 block of North Madeira (behind laurel heights park), when 34 year-old Sergio Contreras Villanueva drove his pick-up truck through a backyard fence and into a home….starting a fire there. When officers responded, Villanueva charged at them with a 4-foot-long stick, that was sharpened on both ends. Both officers fired, and Villanueva was hit several times. According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s office, Villanueva will be charged with Felony Assault With A Deadly Weapon On Officers, Exhibiting A Deadly Weapon and Hit And Run.
A neighbor said the shooting could have been avoided if Villanueva had just followed the orders the police officers made before they shot him.
