Santa Cruz Metro Free Rides 09/19/19 0915 JS

Santa Cruz Metro Transit District is proposing a program that allows passengers who are legally blind a fare-free bus ride.

The pilot program is being proposed as the current system, provided by Chicago-based GFI, issues bus passes in a way that is difficult for blind passengers to access.

A public hearing on the free ride proposal will take place as part of the monthly Metro Board of Directors meeting.

This hearing takes place next Friday (September 27) at Santa Cruz City Hall (where Santa Cruz City Council meets) and starts at 9 A.M. If this program is implemented, it would likely sunset after bus ticketing systems are revised with easier access for blind passengers.
