One of the five crew members on board the Conception filed a lawsuit earlier this week. The lawsuit is against the owner of the dive boat that caught fire earlier this month.
Ryan Sims, the plaintiff, names Truth Aquatics and Worldwide Diving Adventures as defendants in this lawsuit. Sims alleges that the vessel was operated in an unsafe manner, including lack of adequate emergency evacuation procedure training, and need for safety equipment.
The damages being sought are filed under the federal Jones Act. At this time, officials with the National Transportation Safety Board have not determined the cause of the fire that engulfed the Conception.
